The 2016 A6 Allroad is a capable tourer straight out of the box, but the factory diesel calibration leaves plenty on the table for those who want more overtaking grunt and better response under load. This Stage 2 build pairs an aftermarket intercooler and downpipe with custom ECU and TCU calibration to pull an extra 27 kW at the wheels, taking power from 100 kW to 127 kW, while torque climbs from 370 Nm to 420 Nm.
The TCU tune is as important as the engine map here. Shift points are moved to suit the new torque curve, and torque converter lockup behaviour is refined to keep the drivetrain working efficiently during long highway hauls or when towing. The result is a more responsive Allroad that still behaves like a factory car when you want it to, but delivers when you need to carry speed on overtakes or merge with confidence.
Why tune the TCU as well as the ECU on this platform?
The factory TCU calibration is conservative and doesn't anticipate the extra torque. Custom TCU mapping adjusts shift firmness, torque converter lockup, and shift points to suit the revised power curve and protect the transmission under the new load.
What does the aftermarket intercooler and downpipe bring to a Stage 2 diesel tune?
The intercooler helps manage intake temps under sustained load, particularly in Australian summer heat. The downpipe reduces exhaust backpressure, allowing the turbo to spool more freely and the tune to make safe use of the extra airflow.
