Patrol — Stage 1 ECU Tune
- 106% power increase to 140kW at 5000rpm
- 80% torque increase to 202Nm
- Improved instant torque delivery
- Enhanced drivability characteristics
- Emissions compliant calibration
- Optimized fuel system performance
This 2003 Patrol arrived with a transplanted L98 6.0L already fitted but running on a hobbled factory tune. The workshop supplied results showing 68 kW at the wheels before calibration — well short of what the donk should deliver. High-pressure fuel pump and larger injectors were installed to support the revised tune, along with boost control hardware and wastegate solenoid work to manage the forced induction setup.
Factory ECU was recalibrated with attention to fuel delivery, ignition timing, and drive-by-wire response. Post-tune dyno recorded 140 kW at the wheels and 202 Nm, a 72 kW gain that brings the engine much closer to its potential. Intended for off-road and competition use where the extra capacity suits the platform's weight and purpose.
Why such a large gain from a Stage 1 tune?
The engine was already swapped in but running a very conservative or mismatched base calibration. The fuel and boost hardware upgrades, combined with proper recalibration, unlocked the output the L98 should have been making from the start.
Is this setup reliable for remote touring?
This calibration is intended for off-road and closed-circuit competition use. For long-range touring, a more conservative tune with lower output targets would be the safer choice.
Can this be done on other LS-swapped GU Patrols?
Yes, provided the hardware matches — high-pressure pump, appropriate injectors, and boost control. Factory ECU calibration depends on what's already wired in and how the swap was executed.
