ECU Tuning & Calibration for Workshops
Your outsourced calibration department. Your workshop reads the ECU, runs the dyno and keeps the customer; we develop and validate the file against your data — so you can offer tuning without putting a full-time calibrator on the payroll.
Protunes is a B2B calibration-engineering partner for Australian workshops — not a retail tuner. Your workshop reads the ECU or TCU, fits the hardware and logs the car on the dyno or road; we develop the calibration and validate it against your logged data, iterating until the data is clean before the file is released. It lets a workshop offer ECU and TCU tuning, keep the customer relationship, and carry none of the salary, tooling or single-tuner platform risk of an in-house calibrator. Calibrations are supplied for off-road and closed-circuit competition use.
A calibration department you don't have to hire
Most workshops lose tuning work for one of two reasons: they don't have a calibrator on staff, or the one they have is stretched across too many platforms to be sharp on any of them. Outsourcing the calibration removes both problems. You stay the workshop the customer deals with and trusts; the engineering sits behind you. The result is a tuning service line you can offer from the next job, without a hire, without per-platform licences stacking up, and without betting the shop's reputation on one person's availability.
How outsourced calibration works
You read & upload
Read the stock ECU or TCU and upload it with the vehicle details, the build, the target and any datalogs. The file is the starting point — the calibration is developed from the vehicle's own data, not a generic preset.
We calibrate
We develop the calibration for the platform and the build — fuelling, boost, torque modelling, ignition and transmission coordination as the job needs — and return the file for you to flash.
You flash & log
You flash the file and run the car on the dyno or road, capturing the logs. You stay in control of the car and the customer the entire time.
We validate & refine
We review your logs and refine the calibration over as many iterations as the build needs. The file is released as final only when the data confirms it — that validation loop is the whole point.
See the method in detail on the how we calibrate page, or the per-session checklist in the workshop calibration guide.
Validated against your data — so it doesn't come back on you
Risk sits on the data, not on hope
Every file is validated against your logged AFR, knock, boost, EGT and transmission data before sign-off. The comeback — the melted piston, the grenaded gearbox, the unhappy customer — is what a validation-led process is built to prevent.
Multi-platform coverage from day one
Petrol, diesel and TCU across the major flash platforms and standalone ECUs — broader than any single in-house tuner can stay sharp on, available the moment the job lands.
You keep the customer
You remain the workshop the customer deals with. We are the engineering department behind you — invisible to the car owner, and never selling to them directly.
A revenue line, not a fixed cost
Outsourced calibration is a per-job cost that only applies when you have a paying customer — not a salary you carry through the quiet weeks. Scale it up or down with the work.
The services this puts on your menu
ECU tuning files
Custom petrol ECU calibration developed and validated for the platform and build.
TCU tuning files
Transmission calibration so the gearbox holds the power instead of giving it back in slip.
Diesel tuning files
EGT-safe diesel calibration for 4WD and ute towing, response and off-road builds.
Datalog review
A second set of engineering eyes on your logs when a build is fighting you.
Platform support includes ECUtek, HP Tuners, MHD, bootmod3, PCMTec, VersaTuner and standalone ECUs.
Questions workshops ask before outsourcing
Who does ECU calibration for workshops in Australia?
Protunes develops ECU and TCU files for approved Australian workshops on a wholesale/trade basis. You read the ECU and run the dyno; we develop and validate the calibration against your logged data. It is not a retail service sold to car owners.
Can my workshop offer tuning without an in-house tuner?
Yes — that is the point. You handle the hands-on work and keep the customer; we develop and validate the calibration. See the cost and risk comparison in outsource vs in-house tuner.
How does outsourced ECU calibration work?
You read and upload the stock file, we develop the calibration, you flash and log the car, and we refine against your data until the logs are clean. The validated file is released only when the data confirms it.
What should it cost, and how do I price it to my customer?
You set your retail price; the calibration is your wholesale input cost. The pricing tuning services guide covers how workshops price tuning and hold margin.
Is an outsourced file safe for my customer's engine?
It is developed from the vehicle's own stock read and validated against your logged data before sign-off — not shipped as a generic preset. That validation is what reduces the risk of a comeback.
