R35 GTR flex fuel build nets 390 kW at the wheels

This 2008 R35 ran on the safer side of stock for years before the owner committed to a proper Stage 2 package. The brief was straightforward: flex fuel capability, reliable power for circuit use, and a responsive tune that made the most of the VR38's potential without chasing numbers beyond what the supporting hardware could handle cleanly.

ECUTEK handled both ECU and TCU calibration. We dialled in flex fuel mapping to take advantage of E85 availability, adjusted fuelling and ignition timing to suit the upgraded injectors and high-pressure pump, and optimised boost control through the new solenoid and actuators. The result was 390 kW at the wheels and 661 Nm of torque, running 1.24 bar. Transmission behaviour was also addressed to firm up shifts and manage the extra load.

The build sits in the sweet spot for a street-registered car that sees regular track days. Everything works together without drama, and the flex fuel setup gives the owner options depending on what's available at the pump.

Common questions
Is this reliable enough for street use between track days?

Yes. The supporting mods match the power level, and the flex fuel calibration allows the car to run safely on 98 RON when E85 isn't available. It's a well-balanced Stage 2 build, not a high-strung setup.

Does the TCU tune make a noticeable difference?

Absolutely. The factory transmission calibration isn't designed for this torque level, so the TCU tune adjusts shift pressure and timing to handle the extra load and improve response under hard driving.

What does flex fuel capability actually give you?

It allows the ECU to automatically adjust fuelling and timing based on ethanol content. You can run anything from 98 RON to E85, with the tune optimised for E85 to deliver full power when it's available.
