VQ35 350Z flex fuel turbo conversion on Haltech Nexus

This 2008 350Z came to the workshop naturally aspirated and left making 326 kW at the wheels on E85, a healthy result for a street-driven VQ35 turbo build intended for closed-circuit use. The Precision 6466 turbocharger provides good response across the midrange while supporting the top-end output, with boost lifted from 0.34 bar (OEM) to 0.69 bar under the Haltech Nexus management.

The flex fuel calibration allows the owner to switch between 98 RON pump fuel and E85 depending on availability and intended use. Torque climbed from 300 Nm to 505 Nm, which changes the character of the car entirely. Fuelling and ignition maps were dialled in over multiple passes to suit the upgraded injectors, high-pressure pump, and intercooling.

This is a full Stage 3 build with all the supporting hardware in place. The Nexus platform gave us the flexibility to tune boost control, fuel delivery, and ignition timing independently across the entire load range.

Common questions
What's the real-world difference between 98 RON and E85 on this calibration?

The flex fuel tune allows the ECU to adjust for ethanol content dynamically. E85 delivers more power and torque thanks to its higher octane rating and cooling effect, while 98 RON provides a safe fallback for daily driving or when E85 isn't available.

Is the Precision 6466 a good match for a street-driven VQ35?

It's a solid choice for this power level. The 6466 spools reasonably well for a turbo of this size and supports the 326 kW target without running out of breath. Response is liveable for road use, though this build is ultimately intended for competition.

What does the Haltech Nexus platform offer over the factory ECU?

Full standalone control. You get custom fuel and ignition maps, flex fuel capability, proper boost control via the solenoids, and the ability to tune for hardware the factory ECU would never support.
