GT2871R S14 on Power FC—99 kW gain at 1.31 bar

This 1996 S14 came in on the stock SR20 and left with 229 kW at the wheels, a proper step up for closed-circuit use. The GT2871R is a sensible match for the displacement—responsive enough to spool cleanly, capable enough to justify the supporting hardware. We calibrated the Apexi Power FC around the new injector and fuel pump specs, dialled in the boost solenoid at 1.31 bar, and built the maps to make full use of 98 RON.

Torque climbed from 126 to 218 Nm, which speaks to how much the stock turbo was leaving on the table. The intercooler and exhaust did their job keeping temps in check during the dyno pulls. Boost control held tight through the gears, and the tune reflects the reality of what these platforms can deliver when the hard parts are in place and the calibration is treated with care.

Common questions
Why didn't boost pressure increase with the larger turbo?

Boost pressure stayed at 1.31 bar because the GT2871R is far more efficient than the factory unit. It delivers much greater flow at the same pressure, which is where the power gain actually comes from.

Is the Apexi Power FC still a solid option for SR20 tunes in 2025?

Absolutely. It's proven, widely supported, and offers enough control for this level of modification. Tuning resolution is more than adequate for a GT2871R setup on 98 RON.

What's the realistic usability of 229 kW at the wheels on an S14?

Intended for off-road and competition use. On track, it's manageable with good tyres and suspension. On the street, throttle discipline is non-negotiable—RWD and this much torque demand respect.
