Stage 1 NP300 D23 on full exhaust — measured gains with factory ECU

This 2017 Navara NP300 with the D23 diesel was supplied with a full exhaust system already fitted, giving us a solid foundation for a Stage 1 software file. The customer wanted more usable torque for highway overtakes and loaded driving without compromising daily reliability.

We recalibrated boost control and wastegate solenoid behaviour, then addressed high-pressure fuel pump timing and injector delivery to match the improved airflow. The workshop recorded 153 kW at the wheels, up 13 kW from the factory 140 kW baseline, with torque climbing from 370 Nm to 389 Nm. The torque curve fills out earlier now, which is where these trucks spend most of their working life.

Factory ECU platform, no hardware changes beyond the exhaust. Suitable for towing and touring with a proper service schedule.

Common questions
Does this tune require the full exhaust system, or will it work on a stock system?

This file was developed for a vehicle already fitted with a full exhaust system. Running it on a stock exhaust may not deliver the same results and could alter backpressure behaviour.

What's the real-world benefit of 13 kW and 19 Nm on a workhorse diesel?

The torque gain shows up in loaded acceleration and highway merging, particularly between 1800 and 3000 rpm where these engines live during towing and overtaking. It's about response more than outright numbers.

Is this still safe for daily driving and towing in Australian heat?

Yes. Stage 1 software stays within safe margins for EGTs and fuelling. Maintain your service intervals and monitor coolant condition, especially during summer towing.
