Stage 2 N80 Hilux: sensible gains with full supporting hardware

This 2024 N80 Hilux came in with the full Stage 2 hardware suite already fitted: upgraded intercooler, full exhaust system, transmission cooler, and catch can. The brief was straightforward—extract what the hardware allows without chasing numbers that don't suit a working truck.

The workshop recorded 125 kW at the wheels, up 7 kW from the factory 118 kW. Torque lifted from 385 Nm to 410 Nm, which is where the real-world difference shows. Throttle response sharpened up, and the midrange pull is noticeably stronger for overtaking and loaded running.

The transmission cooler was already on the truck, which is sensible given the extra load these see towing in summer heat. Calibration kept everything well within thermal limits and driveability stayed factory-smooth.

Common questions
Why only 7 kW at the wheels with all that hardware?

The N80 platform is relatively conservative from factory, and without forced induction changes there's only so much headroom. The 25 Nm torque gain is where the value sits for a truck that works.

Is the transmission cooler necessary for Stage 2?

Not strictly necessary for the power level, but it's cheap insurance if the truck tows regularly or runs loaded in Australian summer conditions. The extra torque does add thermal load over time.

What's the driveability like after the tune?

Factory-like. Throttle response is crisper and the midrange pull is stronger, but it's still a daily truck. No smoke, no rough idle, no compromise.
