Forester XT — Stage 2 ECU Tune
- Increased power output to 148 kW
- Enhanced exhaust flow characteristics
- Optimized engine breathing with equal-length headers
- ECU calibration for turbo performance
The equal-length header conversion is the story here. This Forester XT was already running an aftermarket cat-back, and the owner wanted to chase the next step without tearing into the turbo or fuelling. The Stage 2 file delivered 148 kW at the wheels, up from 139, with torque lifting from 220 Nm to 235 Nm.
The equal-length setup smooths out the delivery and lets you get a cleaner tune on a car that's often hampered by unequal pulse timing. Nothing dramatic on paper, but the driveability improvement alongside the modest power gain makes it a sensible next move for a daily-driven XT that occasionally gets worked harder on weekend drives.
No supporting fuel or boost figures were logged, so the calibration was dialled in conservatively around the hardware on hand.
Why the smaller power gain compared to other Stage 2 tunes?
Stage 2 results vary widely depending on the turbo, fuel system, and how hard the car was pushed from factory. This build focused on reliability and driveability with the hardware fitted, not chasing peak numbers.
Does the equal-length header make much difference?
It improves exhaust pulse timing, which helps the tune respond more predictably and can smooth out torque delivery. The power gain is modest, but the calibration benefits are real.
Is this suitable for a daily driver?
Yes. The modifications are mild and the tune was calibrated to suit regular use, not track-only thrashing.
