Hilux — Stage 2 ECU Tune
- power increase from 84 kW to 106 kW
- torque increase from 370 Nm to 476 Nm
- enhanced off-road performance capability
- improved engine efficiency
- increased terrain capability
This 2017 Hilux came in with a full exhaust system and snorkel already fitted, so we delivered a Stage 2 file to take advantage of the breathing improvements. The result was 106 kW at the wheels, up from 84 kW, with torque climbing from 370 Nm to 476 Nm.
The torque curve is where this tune earns its keep. That extra 106 Nm makes a real difference when you're towing a van through the ranges or loaded up for a long trip. Throttle response is sharper off the line, and there's more usable pull through the mid-range where you actually drive it.
Dyno figures were supplied by the workshop post-install. The file targets real-world driveability and reliability over outright peak numbers, which suits how most operators use these trucks day to day.
What supporting mods are needed for Stage 2 on a 2017 Hilux?
This build ran a full exhaust system and snorkel. The improved flow allows the calibration to add torque and power without pushing the factory hardware beyond safe limits.
How does the extra torque affect towing capability?
The 106 Nm gain gives noticeably stronger pull under load, particularly in the mid-range. It reduces the need to downshift when climbing or overtaking with a trailer on, which makes highway touring less laboured.
Is this tune safe for daily driving in Australian conditions?
Yes. The file is designed for reliability and real-world use, including summer heat and long-distance touring. The torque and power increases are well within the tolerance of the factory drivetrain when paired with the supporting mods fitted.
