Liberty — Stage 2 ECU Tune
- notable mid-range torque enhancement
- high RPM torque development
- improved throttle response
- optimized fuel delivery mapping
The naturally aspirated EZ30 doesn't leave much on the table from factory, but this 2012 Liberty picked up what was available with a sensible Stage 2 approach. The owner fitted an intake and exhaust upgrade, then we calibrated the ECU to make proper use of the improved breathing.
The result was 128 kW at the wheels, up from 123 kW, with torque lifting from 441 Nm to 445 Nm. These are honest numbers for a six-cylinder boxer with no forced induction. The tune focused on fuel and ignition optimisation to suit the new hardware, tidying up the response and making the most of the freer-flowing path.
It's not a transformation, but it's the reality of tuning a well-sorted NA engine. The calibration ensures the upgrades actually contribute rather than just making noise.
Is 5 kW worth the effort on a naturally aspirated engine?
On an NA flat-six, every kilowatt counts, and the tune also improves throttle response and drivability. The power gain is modest because the factory calibration is already fairly tight on these engines.
Can more power be extracted from the EZ30 without forced induction?
You're close to the limit with bolt-ons. Further gains would require head work, cams, or a higher compression build—well beyond Stage 2 territory.
What fuel was this tune developed for?
