FA20DIT Stage 1 on ECUTEK — torque bump for 98 RON daily use

The VA-chassis WRX on the FA20DIT responds well to a software-only approach when the goal is drivability rather than headline figures. This ECUTEK Stage 1 file addresses the factory calibration's conservative fuelling and boost solenoid control, with particular attention to injector duty cycle and drive-by-wire mapping to smooth out the throttle response that owners often find abrupt from the showroom.

Power lifted from 135.6 kW to 141 kW at the wheels, but the real story is torque: 201.6 Nm to 252 Nm. That 50 Nm gain changes the character of the car in daily driving and on-ramp merges without asking anything of the hardware. Intake and catback calibration tweaks were made to suit the engine's breathing, and fuel pump tuning ensures delivery stays consistent on 98 RON through the summer months.

Common questions
Is this suitable for a customer's daily driver on pump 98?

Yes. The file was developed for 98 RON with no hardware changes required. Injector and fuel pump tuning keep margins safe for street use.

Why is the power gain modest compared to the torque increase?

The FA20DIT's factory fuelling is lean mid-range, so there's more headroom for torque than peak power on a Stage 1 file. The result is a more usable car without stressing the stock turbo.

Does the ECUTEK platform allow for further stages if the customer upgrades hardware later?

Yes. ECUTEK supports staged development, so if the customer adds an intercooler or downpipe down the track, the same platform scales easily.
