Landcruiser 79 Series — Stage 2 ECU Tune
- 32% power increase
- 15% torque increase
- Improved fuel efficiency
- Enhanced midrange torque response
- Optimised fuel mixture control
- Regulated combustion temperatures
This 2023 79 Series came in with the full Stage 2 hardware already fitted: high-pressure fuel pump, injectors, larger intercooler, exhaust system, upgraded boost solenoids, and wastegate work. The factory ECU was holding it back.
We calibrated fuel delivery, boost control, and torque limiters to suit the hardware. Result was 97 kW at the wheels, up from 73.5 kW stock, and torque climbed from 384 Nm to 442 Nm. The torque curve is far more usable for towing and touring, particularly from low revs where these engines spend most of their working life.
With the 1VD's limitations well understood, the file focuses on drivability and reliability rather than chasing peak numbers. Suitable for heavy-duty touring and remote work where the extra grunt counts.
What's the real-world benefit of 58 Nm extra torque in a 79?
It's felt most when towing or loaded. The extra torque from low down means less hunting for gears on hills and better response at highway cruise, which matters on long hauls through the regions.
Does Stage 2 on the 1VD need all that hardware, or can I go lighter?
For this result, yes. The injectors and high-pressure pump are necessary to support the fuelling changes, and the intercooler and exhaust handle the thermal load. Skipping components risks running lean or hot under load.
Is this tune safe for daily use and remote touring?
Calibrated conservatively with reliability front of mind. The 1VD has known limits, so we stay well within safe EGT and fuelling margins. Suitable for genuine touring and work use, not a competition-only file.
