Stage 2 1KD Hiace: near-doubling torque for real-world usability

The 1KD Hiace is a workhorse that rarely sees performance attention, but this Stage 2 file demonstrates what's possible with basic hardware and a proper calibration. Full exhaust system, downpipe, and intake gave the factory ECU enough breathing room to safely deliver 46 kW at the wheels, up from 24 kW, with torque climbing from 128 Nm to 222 Nm.

The torque curve is where this tune earns its keep. That near-doubling means easier highway merging, less gearbox hunting when loaded, and a more usable van in daily service. The file was developed to maintain drivability and thermal management within the 1KD's limits, keeping the calibration sensible for long-haul commercial use.

Dyno figures were supplied by the workshop post-install. No smoke, no drama—just a much more competent van.

Common questions
Is the factory auto gearbox safe at 222 Nm?

The torque gain is substantial, but the 1KD's auto was built with some margin for load. We'd recommend monitoring shift quality and transmission temps, particularly under sustained heavy throttle or when towing.

What kind of fuel economy change should I expect?

Economy typically improves in real-world driving because the engine works less hard to maintain speed or climb grades. Heavy-footed use will obviously offset that, but most workshops report neutral to slightly better consumption after install.

Does this file suit a van that tows regularly?

Yes. The added torque makes towing far less stressful on the drivetrain, and the calibration stays within safe EGT and fuelling parameters for sustained load work.
