Prado — Stage 2 ECU Tune
- Improved Power Output
- Improved Torque Delivery
- Enhanced Boost Control
- Optimised Fuel Injection
- Better Engine Responsiveness
This 2009 Prado arrived with the full hardware setup already sorted: upgraded injectors, high pressure fuel pump, boost solenoids, and boost control, plus drive-by-wire modifications. The factory ECU was ready for a proper Stage 2 file to tie it all together.
The workshop recorded 54 kW at the wheels stock. Post-tune, it put down 67 kW with torque lifting from 237 Nm to 249 Nm. Not earth-shattering numbers, but the 1KD responds well to fuelling and boost changes when the hardware's in place. Drivability stayed clean, and the torque curve should feel noticeably fatter through the mid-range where these engines live day-to-day.
This one's built for long hauls and touring weight—the kind of setup that earns its keep on highway runs and dirt tracks alike.
Why the modest torque gain on a Stage 2 setup?
The 1KD is a conservatively built engine from the factory. Even with upgraded fuelling and boost hardware, there's only so much headroom before you're chasing reliability issues. The 12 Nm lift keeps it sensible for daily and touring use.
What does the drive-by-wire modification do here?
It allows finer control over throttle mapping, particularly useful when towing or managing torque delivery off-road. Combined with the fuelling and boost changes, it smooths out response without making the pedal feel overly aggressive.
Is this safe for towing and remote touring?
Yes. The hardware upgrades support the tune comfortably, and the gains are well within the 1KD's safe operating envelope. It's been calibrated with reliability in mind, not chasing peak numbers.
