Most calibration work is about making an engine produce more. This one is mostly about making sure it survives — and the difference shows in what was worth spending time on.
The hardware is straightforward: a 6.0L LS V8 with an aftermarket cam, 4-into-1 extractors and a cold-air intake, mid-mounted in a tube frame. The curve is what a well-sorted naturally aspirated V8 should look like. Torque crosses 300 Nm by 110 km/h and stays there through to 140, peaking at 313.3 Nm, while power climbs steadily to 272.6 kW at the wheels near 170 km/h. There is no step, no hole and no sudden peak — the torque plateau across the middle of the range is the whole point on loose surfaces, where traction, not peak power, sets the pace.
The engine-protection program is the part that earns its keep. Wideband lambda, knock, oil pressure, fuel pressure and oil temperature are all monitored with strategies that intervene before damage rather than logging it afterwards. That is standard practice on a race engine, but the operating environment here is not standard: this buggy is regularly driven on two wheels and it does occasionally finish a run upside down. Oil pressure and oil temperature limits have to be set for a vehicle whose sump does not always have oil sitting where the designer assumed — so the thresholds are about protecting the engine from its own attitude, not just from load.

Why is engine protection the focus rather than peak power?
Because on this vehicle it is the constraint that actually bites. A naturally aspirated LS at this output is not near its mechanical limit; the risks are oil starvation, knock on a bad fuel load and heat. Protecting against those is worth more than the last few kW.
Does being driven on two wheels or inverted change the calibration?
It changes the protection thresholds rather than the fuel and ignition tables. Oil pressure and temperature limits have to tolerate a sump whose oil is not always where the designer assumed, without being so loose that a real loss of pressure goes unnoticed.
Why does the graph plot road speed rather than RPM?
That is how this chassis dyno logs a sweep. We reproduce the axis as measured rather than converting it, so nothing is inferred that the report did not record.
Is there a stock baseline for comparison?
No. This is a single run on a purpose-built race engine, so there is no stock configuration to compare against and publishing an invented before figure would be dishonest.
