SR20 GTiR gains 26.6 kW with S15 ball bearing turbo and Link

The GTiR typically arrives as AWD, but this 1991 example runs a front-drive conversion and came to us for a Stage 2 file after the owner fitted an S15 ball bearing turbo, Link plug-and-play ECU, high pressure fuel pump, and electronic boost control via wastegate solenoids. The fuel system was also upgraded to support the increased flow.

The workshop-supplied dyno sheet showed 102.4 kW at the hubs before the tune, climbing to 129 kW afterward—a solid 26.6 kW gain. Torque lifted from 157.6 Nm to 213 Nm. The Link platform gave us good resolution over fuel, timing, and boost maps, and the ball bearing centre section on the S15 unit responds cleanly on 98 RON.

Intended for closed-circuit and off-road competition use, the file prioritises reliable midrange delivery and keeps the SR20 safe under sustained load.

Common questions
Why a front-drive conversion on a GTiR?

Some owners remove the rear diff and transfer case to shed weight for circuit work or drag use. This example retained the SR20 and front axle only.

What does the Link ECU offer over the factory Nissan unit?

Full programmability of fuel, ignition, boost control, and safety parameters. The plug-and-play harness makes installation straightforward without custom wiring.

Is 129 kW at the wheels reliable on the standard SR20 bottom end?

At this power level and with proper fuelling and ignition control, the SR20 bottom end is generally considered safe for sustained use on 98 RON.
