Kombi T2B — Stage 1 ECU Tune
- Smooth cold and hot starts
- Improved idle control
- Reliable cruise characteristics
- Improved fuel efficiency
- Enhanced drivability
This is the calibration side of a classic EFI conversion on a '76 Type 2. The Haltech Elite 750 replaces the factory carburettor setup with a batch-fire injection system, bringing cold-start reliability and idle quality into the modern era without losing the period feel.
Calibration focused on getting the fundamentals right: stable idle control, smooth cold starts in varying conditions, and a usable fuel map suited to 98 RON. Final result was 30.5 kW at the wheels and 110 Nm, measured post-tune by the workshop. Nothing heroic, but now the van starts cleanly on cold mornings and drives predictably, which is what these conversions are really about.
Ideal for an owner who wants dependable daily use from an old aircooled Bus without the carb fiddle. The Elite 750 gives plenty of headroom if they ever want to revisit the tune down the track.
Why use a Haltech Elite 750 on a classic Kombi?
The Elite 750 is a cost-effective standalone ECU that handles batch-fire injection and idle control well, making it a sensible choice for older engines moving away from carburettors. It's proven, easy to recalibrate if needed, and doesn't overcomplicate a simple conversion.
What does Stage 1 mean for an EFI conversion like this?
In this case it refers to the base calibration—fuel, ignition, idle, and cold-start maps—with no additional hardware changes beyond the EFI system itself. It's the foundation tune that makes the conversion driveable.
Can this tune be revised later if the engine is modified?
Yes. The Haltech platform is flexible, so the file can be updated if the customer adds different heads, exhaust, or other hardware in future.
This calibration was developed for a workshop like yours
The Volkswagen Kombi above was calibrated by Protunes for a partner workshop — they did the vehicle work and kept their customer; we did the calibration engineering on the Haltech Elite 750. Add professional ECU and TCU calibration to your workshop without employing a calibration engineer.
