520D B47 Stage 1: 24 kW gain with remap and breathing room

The B47 diesel responds well to software alone, and this 520D proves it. Workshop supplied a file with revised fuelling and timing tables that took a K&N air filter into account, moving from 98 kW to 122 kW at the wheels and lifting torque from 300 Nm to 365 Nm.

The goal was accessible mid-range without pushing thermal or boost limits. The K&N helps with airflow, but the real change comes from unlocking headroom BMW left in the factory calibration. Dyno results show clean torque delivery through the mid-band and enough gain to make highway overtakes and loaded touring far less laboured.

Suited to daily use and regional driving where you want response without hardware commitment. No injector or turbo work needed at this level.

Common questions
Is this safe for everyday driving and highway use?

Yes. Stage 1 stays well within the B47's thermal and mechanical margins, using only software and a free-flowing air filter. No hard parts were changed.

Will this suit towing or long-distance touring?

The extra 65 Nm of torque makes loaded driving and highway cruising more comfortable, particularly in hilly terrain or when carrying weight. No reliability trade-offs at this level.

Can I run this tune on standard 91 or do I need premium diesel?

Standard Australian diesel is fine. The remap works within factory fuelling strategy and doesn't require premium or additives.
