520D — Stage 2 ECU Tune
- 35% peak power increase
- 23% peak torque increase
- Improved engine responsiveness
- Enhanced fuel system efficiency
- Optimized boost delivery
- Better low-end torque availability
The B47 diesel in the F10 520D responds well to methodical calibration once you sort the fuelling. This Stage 2 file addresses the high-pressure fuel pump delivery and injector pulse width alongside boost control to lift the engine from 96 kW to 122 kW at the wheels, with torque moving from 280 Nm to 303 Nm.
The supporting hardware is straightforward: a K&N filter for improved airflow, then custom ECU mapping targeting fuel pressure headroom and injector duty cycle. Boost control optimisation keeps the turbo working efficiently through the midrange without overspinning the compressor. The result is a usable mid-range push that suits highway overtaking and long hauls without hammering EGTs.
Factory ECU on this chassis is predictable to work with once you've got fuel delivery sorted and the boost tables dialled in properly.
Is the high-pressure fuel pump tuning necessary for this power level?
Yes. The factory pump map is quite conservative, and without adjusting fuel pressure and delivery timing, you'll hit a ceiling well before 122 kW. The injector optimisation works hand-in-hand with the pump tuning to maintain clean combustion.
What's the torque curve like with the boost control changes?
Torque climbs earlier and holds more consistently through third and fourth. The 303 Nm figure is the peak, but the midrange fill is where you feel the difference on the road.
Does this tune affect DPF regeneration or reliability?
The file maintains factory DPF regeneration strategy. EGTs stay within sensible limits with the boost and fuel changes, so long-term reliability shouldn't be compromised if the vehicle is serviced properly.
