M3 E46 — Stage 2 ECU Tune
- 11% power increase to 198kW
- 9% torque increase to 277Nm
- Improved throttle response via drive by wire optimization
- Enhanced fuel system management for E85 and 98 RON compatibility
- Boost control optimization
- Circuit performance calibration for race applications
The S54 is a well-documented platform, and this E46 demonstrates what a sensible flex fuel setup delivers when you're after headroom without stripping out the character. Starting from 178.4 kW at the wheels, the Syvecs unit manages both 98 RON and E85, tailoring ignition timing and fuelling to suit. The Turner intake, headers, and full exhaust let the engine breathe properly, while upgraded injectors and high-pressure pump support the ethanol content.
The result is 198 kW and 277 Nm at the wheels—a 19.6 kW lift that's usable rather than peaky. The calibration prioritises drivability across the naturally aspirated rev range, with the flex fuel strategy allowing the driver to dial in ethanol percentage depending on availability and intended use. A solid foundation for street or occasional track work.
Why fit a standalone ECU to a naturally aspirated S54?
The Syvecs allows full flex fuel capability and precise control over ignition and fuelling that the factory ECU can't offer, particularly when running E85 blends. It also future-proofs the build if forced induction is considered later.
What's the advantage of flex fuel on this platform?
E85 offers higher octane and cooling benefits, which the tune exploits for more timing and power. The driver can also switch between pump 98 and ethanol blends without reflashing, useful given E85 availability varies across Australia.
Is 198 kW at the wheels reliable for daily use?
With the supporting fuel system and exhaust work in place, this output sits well within the S54's tolerance. The tune doesn't push boundaries—it extracts what the hardware safely allows.
