330cd E46 Stage 1: 162 kW and 488 Nm at the wheels, diesel torque

The E46 330cd with the N57 diesel is a solid platform for a Stage 1 tune, and this one delivered exactly what you'd expect: accessible midrange torque and enough power to make overtaking a non-event. Factory calibration came in at 128 kW and 360 Nm at the wheels, and we've pushed that to 162 kW and 488 Nm with software-only changes to boost control, wastegate solenoid behaviour, high-pressure fuel pump mapping, and injector timing.

The torque lift is the headline here. Nearly 130 Nm extra means the car pulls cleanly from low revs, ideal for highway cruising or long regional hauls. No hardware changes were required, keeping the job straightforward and the customer's budget intact. The factory ECU takes the adjustments well, and the tune maintains driveability without the spikes or lag you sometimes see on rushed diesel files.

Common questions
Is this a reliable tune for daily driving?

Yes. This is a Stage 1 software-only tune with no hardware changes, so it stays well within the tolerance of factory components. The torque increase is linear and the factory ECU manages fuelling and boost cleanly.

What makes the torque gain so large on this platform?

The N57 diesel responds well to refined boost and fuel pressure mapping. Factory calibration is conservative, so adjusting wastegate control, injector timing, and high-pressure fuel pump behaviour unlocks substantial midrange torque without stressing the engine.

Can this tune be done without a dyno?

The calibration file can be flashed without a dyno, but we always recommend a post-tune dyno run to verify power delivery matches expectation and confirm safe air-fuel ratios under load.
