N55 235i Stage 2 — factory ECU and TCU both calibrated

The N55 is a solid foundation for a usable Stage 2 street build, and this 2016 235i demonstrates exactly that. With upgraded wastegate solenoids, high-pressure fuel pump, injectors, and drive-by-wire recalibration, the factory ECU was able to hold tune without issue on 98 RON.

Both ECU and TCU were recalibrated together. The result was 206 kW at the wheels, up from 169 kW, with torque climbing from 343 Nm to 436 Nm. Shift points and torque intervention were adjusted to suit the new output.

This is a sorted package for a customer chasing real-world performance without the complexity of a standalone. The transmission tune makes a noticeable difference in how the car drives, not just in peak numbers.

Common questions
Does the TCU tune make a meaningful difference on a Stage 2 N55?

Yes. The factory TCU will often intervene or hunt between gears once you push past stock torque levels. Recalibrating shift points, pressure, and torque limits keeps the transmission working with the tune rather than against it.

What does Stage 2 on this platform actually involve?

This build includes upgraded wastegate solenoids for better boost control, a high-pressure fuel pump and injectors to support the extra fuelling demand, plus drive-by-wire recalibration. The factory ECU remains but is fully remapped for 98 RON.

Are the stock injectors and HPFP enough for Stage 2 on the N55?

No. This car required upgraded injectors and a high-pressure fuel pump to safely support 206 kW at the wheels on 98 RON. The factory fuel system runs out of headroom well before this output.
