Stage 2 Tiguan R Allspace: ECU and TCU tune with full exhaust

The EA888 in this 2019 Tiguan R Allspace responded well to a complete breathing package and matched ECU and TCU calibration. With an MST intake, downpipe, and full exhaust system in place, the file focused on fuelling, timing, and load optimisation across the midrange where the extra torque matters most for daily drivability and overtaking pace.

Wheel figures came in at 152 kW and 460 Nm, up 17 kW and 110 Nm on the factory baseline. The TCU tune was critical here—firmer shifts, faster response, and keeping the box in the right gear for boost delivery makes the whole package feel far more cohesive. The AWD system masks a lot of torque multiplication at launch, but it's the in-gear pull that customers notice on the road.

This is the sweet spot for a family hauler that still needs to cover long trips comfortably. Factory cooling and drivetrain components are more than adequate for this output level on 98 RON.

Common questions
Why tune the TCU as well as the ECU on this platform?

The factory TCU calibration is conservative and often holds gears too long or shifts too softly once you've added power and torque. Tuning both together ensures shift firmness, timing, and torque limiters are all aligned with the new engine output.

Is this level of modification reliable for daily use?

Stage 2 on the EA888 is well within safe margins when fuelling and timing are properly calibrated. Factory cooling, internals, and the Haldex system all cope comfortably at these figures on 98 RON pump fuel.

What's the real-world difference with 110 Nm extra torque?

It's most noticeable in-gear from 2000–4500 rpm. Overtaking, merging, and loaded acceleration all feel much stronger without needing to drop a gear. The AWD system puts it down cleanly even from low revs.
