MK7.5R Stage 2: 198 kW at the wheels on factory internals

This EA888-powered Golf R arrived with a proper Stage 2 hardware foundation: cold air intake, downpipe, upgraded intercooler, and full exhaust system. The calibration targeted driveability and clean torque delivery on 98 RON while keeping thermal margins safe for Australian summer conditions.

Both ECU and TCU were recalibrated. The factory all-wheel-drive system benefits noticeably from the improved torque curve—414 Nm at the wheels gives the transmission much more to work with through the mid-range. Shift scheduling was adjusted to suit the new power band and prevent hunting under part throttle.

The result is 198 kW and 414 Nm at the wheels, up 50 kW over stock. Perfectly usable for spirited street driving or closed-circuit track days without pushing the factory bottom end into risky territory.

Common questions
Why recalibrate the TCU as well as the ECU?

Factory shift maps are built around stock torque levels. With 414 Nm at the wheels, the DSG needs revised pressure, timing, and kickdown behaviour to avoid slipping or holding gears too long under load.

Is 198 kW at the wheels safe on the factory EA888 internals?

Yes, provided supporting hardware and cooling are in place. This build stays within sensible limits for the factory block and turbo on 98 RON, with headroom left for reliability.

What's the point of the cold air intake and intercooler on a Stage 2 file?

Both help manage intake temps under sustained load, especially in Australian heat. The intercooler keeps charge temps down and the intake feeds the turbo with cooler, denser air.
