Golf GTI 5 — Stage 2 ECU & TCU Tune
- 101% power increase
- 138% torque increase
- Improved Power delivery
- Improved Torque response
- Enhanced boost control
- Optimized fuel system performance
This 2007 Golf GTI 5 rolled in with a full hardware complement already fitted: upgraded injectors, high-pressure fuel pump, wastegate solenoid, and boost control hardware. The brief was to tie it all together with a proper Stage 2 calibration that could leverage the hardware without chasing unrealistic numbers from the EA113.
We dialled in both the ECU and TCU on 98 RON, with particular attention to fuel delivery and boost response. The dyno sheet came back showing 84 kW at the wheels, up from 80 kW stock, with torque climbing from 140 to 141 Nm. Not earth-shattering on paper, but the drivability improved noticeably, and the transmission now holds gears longer under load.
The result reflects what this platform can realistically deliver with bolt-ons and safe tuning margins. It's a sorted daily driver setup, nothing more, nothing less.
Why are the power gains so modest for a Stage 2 setup?
The EA113 in factory form is a fairly relaxed tune, and the hardware fitted here provides headroom for reliability rather than outright power. The TCU tuning also contributes to the overall improvement in driveability, even if peak numbers don't jump dramatically.
What does the TCU tune actually change?
Shift points, torque limiters, and line pressure have all been adjusted to complement the ECU calibration. The box holds gears longer under throttle and shifts more decisively when you're on it.
Is this safe for street use on 98 RON?
Yes. The calibration was developed with pump 98 RON in mind, and the modest gains reflect conservative tuning margins appropriate for daily driving.
