Commodore VE SS — Stage 1 ECU Tune
- 25% power increase to 256kW
- 16% torque increase to 456Nm
- Improved power delivery
- Improved torque response
- Optimized fuel injection mapping
- Enhanced boost control
The VE L98 responds well to a solid foundation of breathing mods and a proper tune. This 2010 SS came in with an OTR intake, headers, full exhaust, upgraded injectors and high-pressure fuel pump already fitted. The factory ECU was recalibrated to suit, including drive-by-wire optimisation to sharpen throttle response and fuel/timing maps matched to 98 RON.
The result was 256 kW and 456 Nm at the wheels, up from 204 kW and 394 Nm. That's 52 kW of additional power with no further hardware changes. Peak gains sit mid-range where the V8 spends most of its time, making it noticeably more willing on the road without sacrificing drivability or reliability on pump fuel.
Is this a conservative or aggressive tune for a VE L98?
This is a sensible Stage 1 calibration on 98 RON with supporting mods. The power gain is consistent with what the platform can handle reliably when the hardware is already in place.
What supporting mods are needed to run this file?
At minimum, improved intake and exhaust flow, upgraded injectors and high-pressure fuel pump. This example also ran headers and a full exhaust, which allow the calibration to make the most of the airflow improvements.
Can this tune run on regular 95 RON?
No. This calibration is mapped specifically for 98 RON. Running lower octane fuel will trigger knock and pull timing, reducing power and potentially causing engine damage.
