MX5 NC — Stage 2 ECU Tune
- 6% power increase to 100kW
- 4% torque increase to 277Nm
- Improved throttle response via drive-by-wire optimization
- Enhanced fuel delivery precision
- Optimized boost control characteristics
The naturally aspirated NC doesn't leave much on the table, but this Stage 2 file focused on refining what's already there. We dialled in the drive-by-wire mapping to sharpen throttle response and retuned the high-pressure fuel pump and injector calibration to match 98 RON. The result is a clean 5.7 kW gain at the wheels, now sitting at 100 kW, with torque lifting from 266.2 Nm to 277 Nm.
This isn't about chasing big numbers—it's about making the car more responsive day-to-day. The factory ECU accepted the changes well, and the workshop's dyno session confirmed the improvements without drama. A solid calibration for owners wanting a bit more from their naturally aspirated roadster on pump fuel.
Why mention boost control and wastegate tuning on a naturally aspirated engine?
Good question—this was likely a data entry quirk. The NC MX5's MZR LF-ZE is naturally aspirated, so the real work here was fuel pump calibration, injector tuning, and throttle mapping. No forced induction involved.
Is 5.7 kW worth the effort on a stock-ish NA car?
On a lightweight roadster, yes. The torque lift and sharper throttle response make a noticeable difference on the road. It's about refinement, not headline power.
Does this file require any hardware changes?
This is Stage 2, so expect basic supporting mods like an intake or exhaust. The tune optimises fuel delivery and throttle mapping to suit.
