This FG Falcon was built for reliable street performance on premium pump fuel. The supporting hardware – downpipe, larger intercooler, wastegate solenoids, upgraded fuel pump and injectors – gave us the headroom to lean into the Barra's appetite for boost and timing. Factory ECU and TCU both recalibrated.
The torque lift is the story here: 379 Nm to 508 Nm at the wheels, while power climbed from 201 kW to 226 kW. TCU file was tuned to suit the new torque curve and hold gears longer under load. Driveability stayed clean, and the factory hardware holds it together without fuss.
Solid foundation for a daily or weekend tool that doesn't need constant attention.
Why tune the TCU as well on a Stage 2 build?
With 508 Nm at the wheels, the factory TCU shift strategy no longer suits the torque curve. We adjust shift points, lock-up behaviour, and torque limiters so the transmission works with the tune instead of against it.
Is 98 RON enough for this power level on a Barra?
Yes. With proper fuelling and conservative timing in the calibration, 98 RON is stable for a Stage 2 Barra making 226 kW at the wheels. E85 opens the door further, but it wasn't required here.
What's the real-world difference with 130 Nm extra torque?
Third and fourth gear pull harder from lower revs, overtaking is effortless, and the car feels substantially stronger in daily driving without needing to work the gearbox as much.
