XR5 on E85 with full fuel system and upgraded turbo

This 2009 Focus XR5 came in with modest factory output and left as a proper weekend weapon for closed-circuit work. The jump from 103 kW to 230 kW at the wheels was made possible by a high-flow turbo backed by a comprehensive fuel system overhaul—high-pressure pump, larger injectors, and all the boost control hardware required to keep it safe on E85.

The calibration on the factory ECU platform had to manage both the new airflow ceiling and the aggressive fuelling demands of ethanol. Torque landed at 284 Nm, which is well-matched to the drivetrain in a front-driver of this weight. Boost solenoids and wastegate control were tuned to deliver smooth delivery without overwhelming the chassis.

E85 provided the headroom to push timing and keep intake temps honest during sustained runs. This is a proper track-focused build, and the file reflects that intent.

Common questions
Can the factory ECU handle this much power on E85?

Yes, with the right calibration strategy. The factory platform has enough processing capability and injector driver capacity when paired with upgraded hardware like high-pressure fuel pumps and larger injectors.

Is 230 kW safe through the factory FWD drivetrain?

It's at the upper limit for street use. This file is intended for closed-circuit competition where the chassis, diff, and axles have been inspected and reinforced as needed.

What's the advantage of E85 over 98 for this build?

E85's higher octane rating and cooling effect allow more aggressive timing and boost without detonation. That's critical when you've more than doubled factory output.
