BP-T Laser with GTX3071R and Vipec flex calibration

The 1988 Laser platform doesn't get much attention these days, but the BP-T engine responds well when you throw proper hardware at it. This one came through on forged internals, mild port and cam work, and a GTX3071R feeding air through a Vipec standalone. The flex fuel calibration lets it swing between pump 98 and E85 depending on what's available.

On the rollers it made 244 kW at the wheels and 415 Nm, up from 184 kW and 308 Nm. The Vipec file handles boost control via solenoids and wastegate logic, with fuelling sorted by the high-pressure pump and upgraded injectors. It's set up for closed-circuit use where you can lean on the extra torque and make the most of the all-wheel-drive traction.

Common questions
Does the flex fuel tune require manual switching between 98 and E85?

No, the Vipec calibration reads ethanol content and adjusts ignition, fuelling, and boost targets automatically. You can fill with anything between straight 98 RON and E85.

What sort of power does this make on pump 98 versus E85?

The 244 kW figure was recorded on E85. Expect around 15–20% less on straight 98 RON, though the file adapts safely to either fuel without intervention.

Is the Vipec platform necessary for this power level on a BP-T?

Not strictly, but it gives far better control over boost, flex fuel blending, and transient fuelling than the factory ECU. For a full build like this, it's worth the investment.
