Stage 3 XR5 on E85 with HPFP and turbo hardware dialled in

This 2009 Focus XR5 arrived with a comprehensive hardware package already fitted: uprated turbo, high-pressure fuel pump, larger injectors, revised boost control, and supporting intake and exhaust work. The job was to bring it all together on E85 and extract usable power for closed-circuit use.

The factory ECU calibration was rewritten to suit the new hardware and fuel. Torque climbed from 290 Nm to 320 Nm, with power lifting from 245 kW to 258 kW at the wheels. The focus was on clean fuelling and stable boost delivery across the range, making sure the hardware worked as intended rather than chasing headline figures.

E85 provides the octane headroom these builds need, and the HPFP keeps up with demand under load. A solid result for a well-prepared car.

Common questions
Why the modest power gain for a Stage 3 setup?

The 13 kW gain reflects tuning an already strong baseline (245 kW) with focus on reliability and driveability. The hardware upgrades provide the safety margin; the tune optimises fuel delivery and timing for E85 without pushing the limits.

Can this car run on 98 RON if E85 isn't available?

This calibration is optimised for E85 exclusively. A separate 98 RON file would be needed for pump fuel, with timing and fuelling pulled back accordingly.

What's the benefit of the high-pressure fuel pump upgrade?

E85 requires roughly 30% more fuel volume than petrol. The uprated HPFP ensures the injectors receive adequate pressure under high load, preventing lean conditions that would damage the engine.
